Dear Families of Room 1, Thank you all so much for your kindness, generosity, and support during our first term. I consider myself very lucky to have such a fantastic class this year. This week was full of laughter and celebration - and we wouldn't have it any other way! From the bottom of my heart, I wish you all a joyful, safe, and restful holiday break and new year. I cannot wait to see what 2016 has in store for us! Happy Holidays! Fondly, Marissa Foley |

Holiday MallWe had SUCH a blast Tuesday with our Holiday Mall project! The students were great salespeople, the Dale Street shoppers were successful spenders, and our Bake Sale made about $900 for the Medfield Home Committee! THANK YOU so much for all your donated baked items and your continued support from home. Room 1 is so lucky to have such considerate parents! Report CardsReport card will be coming home next Tuesday. Please pay careful attention to scales that we use in the different curriculum areas. Our entire year is a work in progress so please do not think that your students are necessarily having difficulties in areas where they didn't receive the highest possible mark. Scores such as "P" for progression or 2's & 3's for "often" and "sometimes" are very common at this point. The students will be exposed to their report cards and its meaning during the school day prior to getting home. They will get an opportunity to review it and ask me any questions before bringing it home to you. The envelopes require a signature to show me that they have shared their report card with you. Please return ONLY THE ENVELOPE with your signature Wednesday before the break. As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Below is a blank report card for you to view: Thanks to the high school Jazz band for treating us to a concert this morning!Holiday MallOur Holiday Mall is open for business next Tuesday, December 15! Students are encouraged to dress in Holiday colors and bring in their baked goods to sell! Report Cards come home the 22ndGrades closed this week and your students are hard at work with their Trimester 1 assessments! Please note that the math grading system on the report card will be standards based (similar to Wheelock). Please do not be discouraged if your students hasn't "mastered" a standard, as most of the standards are still a work in progress. For example, there is one line that reads "Uses multiplication and division with whole numbers to solve word problems," which no student can "master" because we haven't finished our division unit yet. Chromebook PilotDale Street was lucky to acquire 10 chromebooks and we were selected as the fourth grade class to pilot their use! We are using the chromebooks for an independent Immigration project that students are working on with partners and small groups. These will be such a great tool for our current Social Studies projects! Ask your students what they are learning about immigration and check out their google drives to see their work. CodingWe have been exercising the Nation's coding initiative this week with using coding in a variety for different ways! Ask your students to show you at home!
Social StudiesWe have wrapped up our Native American unit this week with all of the groups presenting their posters and their research! We will be moving into our immigration unit next week! ScienceWe wrapped up our unit on Plate Tectonics Unit with a final assessment today. Students were tasked with on open-notebook performance assessment to apply what they have learned! They did great! We are moving into our weathering and erosion unit from here. :) MathEarlier this week students took their benchmark assessments for Trimester 1. EVERYONE did such a nice job! Benchmark assessments will not be coming home at this time. They are being used to mark student progress from September and will be great information for me to see what areas students still need interventions and support with. Holiday Mall
Bake SalePlease remember the Bake Sale is Tuesday, December 15 as a part of our Holiday Mall project. All the proceeds go to the Medfield Home Committee. Each student is STRONGLY encouraged to bring in nut-free, pre-packaged, baked items to sell for $1. Please refer to my parent information regarding the Holiday Mall.
